Empowerment is one of SHE’s core values. promoting independent and powerful students. It was named as one of the 10 SHE principles developed at the first conference of the European network of health-promoting schools. SHE defines empowerment as the process of increasing the capacity of individuals and groups to define, analyze and act on their own problems, such as being actively involved in decision making within the school and in the context of life in general society. Empowerment is described as one of the components in the 7th standard of health-promoting schools. Strategies to improve empowerment ensure that children and young people participate in all aspects of the design of a health-promoting program or activity. Children are encouraged to develop their own visions and ideas to positively influence their lives and living conditions.
